More WA in Europe

Tourism Western Australia has secured additional coverage in two European tour wholesaler brochures. Meiers Weltreisen 2012 brochure is to feature two additional pages of product from Australia's South West and Australia's Golden Outback regions.

Two more pages will be dedicated to Tourism WA's new cooperative partnership with Thai Airways by promoting a holiday combining WA and Thailand.

Tourism WA has also negotiated for the State to be featured as the Destination of the Year in 2012 with Swiss operator Flextravel. The content for this brochure is currently under negotiation, with two additional pages featuring new WA product to be included.

Western Australia’s partners in the sky

A radio campaign together with Thai Airways and a joint promotion with Singapore Airlines, the South Australian Tourism Commission and FTI Germany is part of new a push by Tourism Western Australia to step up its activities with airline partners.

Tourism WA is currently running a major advertising campaign on Germany’s HR3 radio station in Frankfurt  in cooperation with Thai Airways. It reaches 1.3 million listeners daily until September 9. The station’s website is expected to receive 2.5 million visits daily during the duration of the campaign.

Listeners are invited to take part in a competition to win a trip to Western Australia, travelling through Perth and the South West regions and flying Thai Airways, with a stopover in either Bangkok or Phuket.

Meanwhile, a joint activity between Singapore Airlines, the SATC and tour operator partner, FTI consists of a two-prong on-line and print promotion.  A print supplement featuring destinations in Western Australia and South Australia is being distributed to 20,600 German travel agents and accompanied by a newsletter to 17,500 contacts in November.

All five Western Australian regions are featured in the promotion. An on-line itinerary training game will feature extensive destination and experience content to teach travel agents mpre about the opportunities in Western Australia. The incentive for agents to take part in the game is the possibility to win a trip to WA and South Australia and follow the itinerary of the game in real life.

Sea Temple for Surfers Paradise

Perth to host major athletics event

Another top class international sporting event is on its way to Perth -- the 2016 World Masters Athletics Championships.

The 2016 championships will be a major event for Perth and Western Australia and is expected to attract thousands of athletes and spectators.

Perth had bid for the 2015 championships however following changes to the World Masters Athletics constitution two championships were up for grabs with Western Australia winning the 2016 event. Lyon, France will host the 2015 event.

The changes mean that following the 2015 event the championships will be held every even numbered year, starting with 2016, instead of the current odd-year schedule.

The result is a testament to the hard work of the bid committee, which submitted a top-class presentation to the assembly.

 The bid process has been a collaborative effort between Eventscorp, Masters Athletics Australia, Masters Athletics Western Australia, Athletics Western Australia, Athletics Australia, the Department of Sport and Recreation and VenuesWest.
